Pioneers
Leaving
behind his parents Duncan McCormack and Ann
Kelso,
John McCormack and his wife Catherine Kerr (pioneers) emigrated to
Canada from the Isle of Arran, Scotland and received a land grant of 100
acres in Blackland, New Brunswick.
John McCormack and Catherine Kerr, both of the town of Corrie, were
married in Kilbride Parish the town of Corrie on the 22nd of
February 1827. John's brother William McCormack and his wife
Flora MacKenzie and family
departed from the Isle of Arran at the same time, and also received a land
grant of 100 acres in Blackland.
The McCormack's, the Dutch's and
McCurdy's in Belldune came over on the same vessel. They were three
weeks crossing, had a heavy storm which drove them off their course and
all were nearly lost. They landed in Dalhousie, New Brunswick in
June of 1832.
